Reading facing injury crisis of their own ahead of Bristol City with eight players ruled out

While Bristol City are dealing with their own injury issues, Saturday's opponents Reading will have eight players sidelined for their trip to Ashton Gate on Saturday.

Before the international break, Nigel Pearson had seven senior players on the treatment table in Tomas Kalas, Kal Naismith, Tommy Conway, Matty James, Ayman Benarous, Rob Atkinson and Joe Williams.

Three of those are expected to be back in contention for Saturday in Naismith, James and Conway to give Pearson some welcome selection decisions to make. For opposition manager Paul Ince, he'll be taking his squad across the M4 with options very much few and far between.

As reported by BerkshireLive, striker Shane Long is among those who will be forced to sit out the game in BS3. Central defenders Tom McIntyre and Sam Hutchinson, who have 46 league appearances between them this season are also absent including back-up option Liam Moore.

Midfielder Mamadou Loum, who scored in the reverse fixture and has been an important player this season playing 28 times, misses out while forwards Junior Hoilett (32 appearances), Ovie Ejaria and 20-year-old midfielder Dejan Tetek also sit out.

Reading are likely to welcome back two players including forward Yakou Meite who has been out for almost a month. The 27-year-old has been an important player for Reading this season with 24 appearances, scoring three and assisting three.

Left-back Baba Rahman will also come back into the frame after picking up an ankle injury around six weeks ago. He has featured 18 times across the Championship during the campaign.

Reading head into the game on the back of five games without a victory, including a 5-0 defeat away at Middlesbrough. Ince's side still face the threat of relegation, currently nine points above the drop zone but with a potential six-point deduction looming for breaching financial rules.

Meite issued a rallying cry ahead of the game, claiming they are prepared to fight for three points to alleviate the pressure on their shoulders. He told the club's official site: "This week has been good for us – especially for me because I’ve had time to work.

"Hopefully I will be fit for this weekend, so it’s a good opportunity for us to regroup and work on things for the next few games.

"I think the break came at a good time for us after a period with a lot of games where we played every three days. Like I said, I think it's been a good time to regroup and to come back stronger.

"Bristol City will be tough. I know it’s always tough to play there and I’ve played there a few times. So we know to expect a tough game, but ultimately - we need points. So we're ready to fight for those points."

City will be after revenge with the reverse game coinciding with one of their worst performances of the season. Pearson's side lost 2-0 following second-half goals from Loum and Andy Carroll.
