READERS of The National are being invited to share their abiding memories of former first minister Alex Salmond.
The ex-SNP leader died aged 69 on Saturday after appearing at a conference in North Macedonia.
While he was at the event in Ohrid, he spoke on a panel focusing on "leadership, cultural bridges and legal frameworks in post-conflict reconciliation".
Salmond was the leader of the SNP twice during his political career, from 1990 to 2000 and from 2004 to 2014.
He is largely credited for helping take the party from the fringe into the mainstream as he led the SNP into power when they won the Scottish Parliament election in 2007. The party then won an unprecedented majority in the election four years later which helped pave the way for the referendum on Scottish independence.
