The Boston Celtics have traded Grant Williams to the Dallas Mavericks in a three-team trade also involving the San Antonio Spurs. The Celtics received three second round picks, while the Spurs received a pick swap and Reggie Bullock as part of the deal for making their cap space available to grease the wheels of the trade.
Williams signed a four-year, $54 million contract with the Mavericks, evidently more than whatever the so-called “green light” Celtics President of Basketball Operations had been approved to spend. Boston fans are understandably disappointed with the trade as they see it as losing a valuable rotation player for nothing, or very close to it.
The hosts of the “How ‘Bout Them Celtics?” podcast Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance broke down the deal from their points of view while trying to project what it means for Boston’s future in a recent reaction pod.
Check out the clip embedded above to hear where they came down on the trade.
