After a summer packed full of blockbusters, you had better save some energy for Reacer season 4, as it's hitting Prime Video this August. As well as finally locking down a 2026 release date, we know which one of Lee Child's Jack Reacher books the upcoming season will adapt. But more on that later.
Of course, Alan Ritchson is returning as the strapping savior, but the hero has his work cut out for him this time, as after taking over New England in season 3, Reacher is set to take a bite out of the Big Apple. That's right, Reacher is going to New York City. We also know that post-production has officially wrapped, so all that is left to do now is wait patiently and decipher all of the cryptic clues Ritchson posts on his social media channels.
Below, we've put together a guide on Reacher season 4's confirmed release date, cast, plot details, trailers, and more. For all you need to know about one of the most exciting upcoming shows, not to mention one of the best Prime Video shows, scroll on...
Reacher season 4 release date
After over a year of speculation, star Alan Ritchson has confirmed that Reacher season 4 will hit Prime Video on August 12, 2026.
Ritchson took to Instagram to share the news, writing, "We got a heavy one-two punch coming your way," adding that Reacher spin-off show Neagly will hit Prime one month after Reacher season 4, on September 16. Entertainment Weekly later added that Reacher season 4 will kick off with a three-episode premiere.
Reacher season 4 plot speculation
As we know, the series as a whole is based on Lee Child's works, with each season exploring a separate book. Season 1 was adapted from book 1, The Killing Floor, season 2 was taken from book 11 , Bad Luck and Trouble, and season 3 is based on book 7, The Persuader. Reacher season 4 will adapt Child's 13th Reacher book, Gone Tomorrow.
On June 11, Prime Video gave us the ultimate clue by posting a picture of the Reacher season 4 script sitting on a New York City Subway car. Although there are multiple Reacher books that take place in NYC (The Picture of the Lonely Diner, The Hard Way, and Running Blind), the only one that focuses on the subway is Gone Tomorrow. However, we didn't have to guess for too long, as a few hours later, Ritchson posted a picture of himself on Instagram, which you can see below, holding up a copy of Gone Tomorrow, and on the other hand, holding up four fingers.

Released in 2009, Gone Tomorrow sees Reacher roam the streets of New York in search of a dangerous terrorist. However, the opening largely takes place in the NYC subway system, where Reacher notices a suspicious-looking passenger who he thinks may be a suicide bomber. Not only this, but the story sees Reacher partake in subway surfing, a dangerous activity where people cling onto moving subway cars. It looks like star Alan Ritchson has his work cut out for him this time.
We'll stop there as we don't want to give too much of the story away, but according to Child's website, this one sounds like Reacher's wildest ride yet. "Suicide bombers are easy to spot. They give out all kinds of tell-tale signs... There are twelve signals to look for," reads Gone Tomorrow's description.
"New York subway, two o'clock in the morning. As the train brakes for Grand Central Station, Jack Reacher studies his fellow passengers. Four are OK. The fifth isn’t. The fifth ticks off every point on the danger list."
If that sounds tense, just know there is more to come. It's not going to be an easy ride for Reacher, as in a video taken by Ritchson on set and posted on Instagram, we can see him bloodied and scraped as if he has fallen. Another interesting detail is that Gone Tomorrow is one of five Reacher books that is written in first person, meaning we might get some inner monologues from the usually quiet hero.
It is not clear at this point just how closely the season will follow Gone Tomorrow's original storyline. For now, we wait for the official synopsis. But one thing is for sure, according to Ritchson, season 4 "may be the best season yet." He also took to Instagram to call it the "most gripping season" and said that the show is "firing on all cylinders."
Reacher season 3 recap and ending explained
Reacher season 3 saw the ex-soldier go to his most vulnerable state yet as we went undercover and lived in enemy territory. In order to find a lost DEA informant named Teresa, Reacher posed as a wannabe bodyguard to gain access to a dodgy rug import business involved in shady dealings. However, once inside it became apparent that a dark figure from Reacher’s past who he thought he had killed years ago, Xavier Quinn, was in control of the whole thing.
With Reacher out for revenge and DEA agent Susan Duffy hellbent on finding her informant, the season came to a fiery end with Reacher pointing a gun at the man he hates most. For more on that, check out our Reacher season 3 ending explained guide.
However, as each season of Reacher follows a separate story, we don't think season 4 will continue the New England Storyline. But some characters from season 3 could well show up in the next installment just as seasons 1 and 2 stars, such as Maria Sten's Franic Negaley, have appeared in following seasons.
Reacher season 4 cast: predicted returning cast members
Of course, there would be no Reacher without star Alan Ritchson, and with the actor freely talking about the upcoming season during the Reacher season 3 press run, we can certainly expect Ritchson to return. As for the rest of the stars, we know that the show shakes up the cast every season due to Reacher landing in a brand new town each time, so expect to see some fresh faces.
Most notably, Jay Baruchel will not be returning as Jacob Merrick due to personal matters, and the role will instead go to Barry actor Christopher Rodriguez-Marquette. Jacob is set to have a much "meatier" role this season, as per Deadline.
However, some cast members have returned from season to season. For example, Malcolm Goodwin, who played Oscar Finley in season 1 showed up for one episode in season 2. Plus, season 2 star Maria Sten, who plays Francis Neagley, returned for a number of episodes in season 3. But with Sten now set to star in her own Neagley spin-off series, we can't be sure that the badass ex-soldier turned private investigator will show up in Reacher’s world again.
JustJared reported that Sydelle Noel, star of Netflix's GLOW, has joined the cast as NYPD Homicide Detective Tamara Green. In the novel, her character's name is actually Theresa Lee.
So, for now, the Reacher season 4 cast list is looking pretty thin on the ground, but is as follows:
- Alan Ritchson as Jack Reacher
- Christopher Rodriguez-Marquette as Jacob Merrick
- Sydelle Noel as Tamara Green
- Agnez Mo as Lila Hoth
- Kevin Corrigan as Detective Docherty
- Kevin Weisman as Russell Plum
- Marc Blucas as John Samson
- Kathleen Robertson as Elsbeth Samson
Is there a Reacher season 4 trailer?
There is no trailer or teaser video for Reacher season 4 just yet. However, now that we have an official release date, we expect the first teaser to drop any day.
The first Reacher season 3 trailer was released in December 2024, just two months before the season hit screens. This means that the official season 4 trailer should appear in early July 2026. Prime Video is really keeping us on our toes this time.
Is Reacher season 4 the final season?
Although Prime Video has yet to confirm whether season 4 will be the final installment, it doesn't look likely due to the success of the series so far. Upon its release, Reacher season 3 became the highest-rated season so far scoring an impressive 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.
It looks like star Ritchson isn't ready to hang up Reacher's one jacket yet either, as when asked if he can see Reacher settling down anytime soon, the star told GamesRadar+, "For now, I think we're going to continue to honor the fact that Reacher really is a lone wolf."
But even if Reacher season 5 never rolls around, we will get to see Ritchson's hero pretty much straight away after season 5, as the star is set to make an appearance in spin-off Neagly. Prime Video shared the first look at the upcoming spin-off on Twitter, which shows Reacher accompanying Neagly to a funeral.
