RBI appoints Sudhakar Malli as Executive Director with effect from October 1

The Reserve Bank of India has appointed Sudhakar Malli as Executive Director with effect from October 1, the central bank said in a statement on Friday.

Malli, who was serving as Chief General Manager-in-Charge of the RBI’s Department of Supervision, will now oversee the Department of Supervision (Supervisory Assessment), the RBI said.

A career central banker with around three decades of experience, Malli has spent more than 25 years working in the supervision of banks, non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) and co-operative banks. He also has around five years of supervisory experience in overseas jurisdictions, according to the central bank.

Malli’s experience at the RBI has also included work in the area of Currency Management, in addition to his responsibilities in financial-sector supervision.

His appointment to the Executive Director role moves him into the central bank’s senior leadership team after his tenure as Chief General Manager-in-Charge of the Department of Supervision.

The Department of Supervision carries out supervisory functions for entities regulated by the RBI, while Malli’s new assignment specifically covers the supervisory assessment function.

Malli holds a B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB).

The RBI did not provide details of any specific priorities or additional responsibilities for Malli in his new role beyond assigning him charge of the Department of Supervision (Supervisory Assessment).
