Masters Champion Scottie Scheffler Wins RBC Heritage At Harbour Town

Scottie Scheffler was in no mood to give the chasing pack a glimmer of hope at Harbour Town, the World No.1 finishing off on Monday to win his tenth PGA Tour title by three strokes.

Only poor weather could stop Scheffler in his tracks on Sunday, but after holing a slippery par putt on the par-5 15th, he came back out on Monday with a five-shot lead.

No one was expecting the Masters champion to wobble - and he didn't. After making safe pars at 16 and 17, the only blemish came on the 18th when he failed to get up-and-down from the side of the green, which led to his only single bogey of the week.

In his last five starts, Scheffler now has four victories, including the Players Championship and the Masters.

It's the first time since 1985 that a player has followed up their Masters success with victory at the RBC Heritage, a feat managed by the great Bernhard Langer.

Scheffler, who will shortly become a father for the first time, will start next month's PGA Championship as an overwhelming favorite.

The question is, who can stop him? His peers might be hoping a few sleepless nights changing diapers could make him less of a threat.

That, however, is probably clutching at straws.

RBC Heritage Leaderboard

  • -20 SCHEFFLER
  • -16 THEEGALA
  • -15 CLARK, CANTLAY

Updates from...

FAST START FOR CLARK

Wyndham Clark moves to -14 after superb start with -5 for 5 holes. Scorching.

ABERG GETS HIS LATEST CHALLENGE UNDERWAY WITH SCHEFFLER

Fresh from his runner-up finish at the Masters in his first Major, Ludvig  Aberg is again in contention with Scottie Scheffler for the title here. He is -13, three shots back, and has just teed off on the first and found the fairway with a 296 yard drive before sticking a wedge on to the green as he opened with a par.

MORIKAWA ALSO HAS ANOTHER SHOT AT SCHEFFLER

Collin Morikawa is underway and is on the first in regulation where he has made his par. He is another player who will be keen to have a new shot at Scheffler after missing out on the green jacket last weekend.

SCHEFFLER GETS HIS LATEST TITLE BID UNDERWAY

Scottie Scheffler has teed off and has found the fairway on the first with a 281-yard shot on to the short stuff. He then surprisingly flies the green and will face an early test for his exceptional short game. But , predictably, he has chipped up close and saved his par.

XANDER UP TO -12 AFTER BRILLIANT BREAKING PUTT

Xander Schauffele is up to -12 after birdies on the fourth and fifth including this brilliant putt 43-foot putt on the fourth for a two.

CLARK CONTINUES HIS INCREDIBLE START

Wyndham Clark is now -6 for seven holes today - just a shot behind Scheffler - and on course for a par at the 8th.

GREENS ARE PLAYING HARD AND FAST

The greens look to have dried out because Scheffler has just gone through the back of the second as well. This time it was with a 2 iron from 262 yards which pitched by the pin and ran through. As it is a par 5 , the world No.1 will have a look at birdie here with a decent chip back.

LUDVIG ABERG MAKES A DISAPPOINTING START

Aberg is struggling to get going today in the final round is +1 for three holes.

UNBELIEVABLE, WHAT A SHOT FROM SCHEFFLER TO EAGLE SECOND

That is a majestic chip shot for an eagle three on the second from leader Scheffler. After his 2 iron ran through the green having pitched near the hole, the world No.1 was faced with a tough chip and executed it quite brilliantly. What a stunningly shot and a dagger to his rivals' hopes.

CLARK REACHES THE TURN AT -7 FOR NINE HOLES

Clark shot the lights out at Pebble Beach earlier this year with a 12-under 60 and he could be on course for something else special today after reaching the turn -7

NO TROUBLE AT PAR 3 FOURTH FOR SCHEFFLER AFTER DAZZLING IRON

The par 3 fourth over the water has been causing trouble for a number of pros like Morikawa who has gone in the drink. But our leader has just nailed a 190-yard shot straight at the flag and will have a putt from 10-feet for birdie. He is looking imperious again. He lips out for birdie but makes an easy par.

SCHEFFLER UNLEASHES 316-YARD DRIVE ON FIFTH

Scheffler has opened up an angle to attack the par five fifth in two after a superb drive to the corner to enable him to reach the green in two which he achieves en-route to a birdie to get to -3 for the day. He needs to keep his foot on the pedal with Clark now -8 in 11 holes to get to -17 in total.

CLARK GOES OUT OF BOUNDS CHASING SCHEFFLER

US Open champion Clark has been having a superb round on -8 after 11 holes, but in the process of trying to chase Scheffler , he has hit an aggressive shot out of the trees which has ricocheted out of bounds on the 12th as he records a double bogey to slip -15.

STRAKA SLIPPING DOWN LEADERBOARD

Sepp Straka is going backwards today on +2 to slip back to -13

SCHEFFLER CONTINUES TO LOOK UNSTOPPABLE

Scheffler's lead is up to four shots now at -19 in total and -3 for six holes today. He has then hit the par 3 7th and chipped up close from the fringe. Excellent golf yet again from the world No.1 who makes his par.

SCHEFFLER JUST OFF FAIRWAY ON EIGHTH BUT IN DECENT SHAPE

Scheffler has taken a fairway wood off the tee on the eighth and will have 177 to the green at the par four. He misses on the right but chips up close to leave a tap in for par.

RODGERS HOLES OUT FOR EAGLE TO BE NEAREST CONTENDER

Patrick Rodgers has chipped in for eagle on the par four ninth to be closest contender to Scheffler.

SCHEFFLER -3 AT THE TURN AND REMAINS -19 IN TOTAL

Scheffler remains in total control this tournament and on course for another win after reaching the turn in -3 with pars on 6,7,8 and 9. He has then found the 10th fairway with a 281-yard drive and continues to make this hardest of games look remarkably straight-forward with a tap in 4. What a talent. The only unconvincing aspect is Scheffler's gilet!

RAIN ARRIVES IN SOUTH CAROLINA BUT SCHEFFLER REMAINS HOT

Scheffler takes his par at the 10th and hits a 247-yard drive at the par 4 11th as the rain starts here. It is hosing it down now but doesn't stop Scheffler hitting it 189 yards to 26-feet from where he two putts for his latest par to remain four shots ahead of the pack including Morikawa.

CLARK'S ROLLERCOASTER CONTINUES

Wyndham Clark, who eagled the second, has just notched his eighth birdie on the 17th to get into a tie for second on -6 today and -15 in total after dropping four shots on the back nine.

PLAY SUSPENDED DUE TO THREAT OF LIGHTENING FOLLOWING DELUGE

PGA TOUR STATE PLAY DUE TO RESUME AT 7PM E.T

Play is now due to resume at 7pm E.T , organisers have announced which should give us at least an hour's golf action.

PLAY IS BACK UNDERWAY AFTER A WEATHER BREAK

Leader Scheffler has picked up where he left off before the rain and weather delay with the American and world No.1 returning to his tee shot at the 12th to hit a wedge from 125 yards on to the green, 20 feet from the hole. It lands and stops immediately after the rain softened everything up from where the leaders make par.

SCHEFFLER SPLITS THE 13TH FAIRWAY OFF THE TEE

There have been plenty of errors from the pros adjusting to a longer, wet, damp course after the rain delay. But Scheffler continues to march to the title after splitting the 13th fairway with a rescue wood off the tee at the par 4 13th before firing an approach to 6 foot from 90 yards to set up another birdie .

DISAPPOINTING WEEK FOR RORY McILROY

McIlroy has just signed for a final round 74 which is +3 to reduce his total to -7. McIlroy's round included a double bogey at the last. It is not what the Northern Irishman will have wanted after entering the tournament in a bid to rediscover his best form.

SCHEFFLER DRILLS 5 IRON AT 14TH ON TO THE GREEN

Scheffler has cleared another daunting hurdle with a fine shot on to the par 3 14th with a 189-yard effort to the right of the green from where he makes a two-putt par to stay four ahead.

SCHEFFLER FINDS THE WATER AT THE 15TH BUT SAVES PAR

Consistent Scheffler finds the fairway at the par 5 15th with a 279-yard tee shot but the leader has made a rare error with his second shot putting it just into the water. After taking a drop, the world No.1 now has a left to right putt for par following a fine approach which he nails. Scheffler fist pumps but his five ends his run of  53 consecutive holes scoring four or better.

RIGHT, LET'S GET THIS DONE

I've got a sneaky feeling Scheffler might just hold on. Not long now until the players come back out and Scottie is crowned champion... again.

A REMINDER OF HOW IT FINISHED

Scheffler did give the chasing pack a glimmer of hope late in the day. The American hit his second at the par-5 15th into the water and was then faced with a pretty awkward pitch into the green, his fourth shot. He played a stunner in the near-darkness (not quite like Tiger's famous 'Shot in the dark' at Firestone) and then holed a slippery 15-footer to save par.

WE'RE OFF

Straka for birdie at 15... makes it from about 12 feet. Nice start from the man in the hoodie. Poston looks like he'll get up-and-down from the side of the green at 18. Everyone, though, is going to need some help from the leader.

COSTLY ERROR FROM POSTON

Nine out of 10 for the chip, but not a putt to match. Poston drops out of a tie for second with a bogey on 18. Meanwhile, Scheffler pumps one down the center of 16. He still has a five-shot lead.

CANTLAY FINISHES -15

A chip and a putt and Cantlay is in the house at -15. No need to stay loose, Scheffler is going to be picking up his 10th PGA Tour title. That's unless he has some sort of nightmare at 18. I've played Harbour Town and I did endure a nightmare down the last hole. I remember hooking two balls into the marshland, but then I am not Scottie Scheffler. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see him sign off with a birdie.

THE LEAD IS FOUR

Fair play to Sahith Theegala who birdies 16 to trim Scheffler's lead to four.

TWO TO GO FOR SCHEFFLER

The World No.1 makes par at 16 - just two holes to go and he has a nice cushion heading to the par-3 17th. Collin Morikawa makes a two there on what is not an easy hole. Scheffler doesn't need to attack - but most likely will anyway.

SCOTTIE ON 18...

Scheffler finds the short stuff. Of course he does. There hasn't been any sign of a wobble - not that we really expected one. Your Masters champion will shortly be crowned the champion here - another seriously impressive week.

SCHEFFLER'S FINAL APPROACH...

Scheffler out with the 3-wood, gripping down. He leaks it right, which is the miss to make. Can he avoid making his first bogey of the week (just one double so far)?

NO DRAMA ON 18

We have a Rules official out for Scheffler, but he's just getting relief having hit his ball towards the stands on 18 (a popular spot). The World No.1 takes his time before playing what, for him, is an average chip/pitch. We're almost there, folks. Scheffler will have about 18 feet for par.

SCHEFFLER WINS THE 2024 RBC HERITAGE

Scheffler makes his first single bogey of the week. However, it's a tenth PGA Tour title for the American.
