The chart-topping British singer-songwriter Raye has said that her second album will be delayed after songs for it were stolen along with her car.

She wrote on Instagram: “My car got stolen with all my song writing books in the boot so no second album any time soon love you bye.”

It’s a frustrating setback for the singer, born Rachel Keen, who built considerable momentum with her debut album My 21st Century Blues.

She had been left in limbo by her previous record label, prompting her to go public with her difficulties, writing: “I’m sick of being slept on and I’m sick of being in pain about it.” After extricating herself from the contract, she went independent with My 21st Century Blues, which became a huge success. The single Escapism topped the UK chart and went Top 30 in the US, and Raye went on to win six Brit awards this year, beating the record for the most wins in one ceremony.

Prada, a remix of a track she wrote with rap duo D-Block Europe, spent 22 weeks in the Top 10 last winter, and has now re-entered the Top 40. She co-wrote a song for Beyoncé on her 2024 album Cowboy Carter, and in June she released a new solo single, Genesis, performing it on US television.
