The Baltimore Ravens selected tight end Isaiah Likely in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL draft. The third year players has sky-high expectations after his end to last season, and he hopes to build on that performance in 2024.
Likely was asked about areas of his game that can improve this year, and pointed to his in-line blocking. He said getting better there will keep him on the field a lot more during the season, and mentioned that blocking is about being willing, and how much he wants it alongside his drive.
“I felt like, obviously, [I] want to get better with in-line blocking. That’s definitely going to keep me on the field a lot more, but really, just working on that first step, that hand placement and really just strain. That’s the one thing that I felt like … As a blocker, it’s more [about] your willingness. ‘How much do you want it more for your person not to make the tackle, rather than him make the play? So, I feel like that’s more of your want and your drive, at the end of the day, in the play, and I feel like that’s something I’m going to show a lot more this year.”
Likely wasn’t known for his blocking coming out of college, but has improved in that area gradually over the course of his NFL career so far. If he can continue to get better he should see added opportunities, especially when it comes to more playing time.
