Ravens RB coach Willie Taggart is confident Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry will gel

The Baltimore Ravens signed Derrick Henry to a two-year, $16 million deal to bolster their running back room. He should be able to fill in and exceed what the team got from Gus Edwards and J.K Dobbins last year, as he still has plenty left in the tank.

When asked if it would be difficult for Henry to gel with quarterback Lamar Jackson, Baltimore running back coach Willie Taggart said it would be easy for the two to get RPOs down, among other things.

“I don’t think it’s very difficult. First of all, when we get the reps in practice, it makes it so much easier. With the RPOs [run-pass options], it all comes down to decisions; it’s more a decision for the quarterback than it is the running back. The running back is running the play that we call, and it’s just whether the quarterback wants to hand it off to you or not. So, [Derrick Henry] has just got to know his assignment and continue to do his assignment and let Lamar [Jackson] do what Lamar does, and he’ll be fine. But I don’t think it’s going to be difficult at all. It’s been great so far.”

It will take time for Jackson and Henry to get on the same page, especially as Henry learns a new system. However, chemistry can build fast, and the two stars should be able to establish plenty of it before the year begins.
