The Baltimore Ravens have seen quarterback Lamar Jackson do plenty of amazing things on the football field, both with his arm and his legs. The sixth-year pro has added onto his game in each season, and is potentially on track to win his second-straight MVP award.
“I do think that’s a strength of [Lamar Jackson’s]. I do think he sees the field very well. Take for instance … We’ll talk about the scrambles first. He does a tremendous job, and we’ve worked awfully hard with our scramble drills in terms of our spacing down the field reacting to the quarterback. But even beyond that, I think he’s able to communicate what he sees and what he anticipates. Then, when he gets outside the pocket, [he] does a great job of seeing things. The touchdown [pass] to Zay [Flowers against the 49ers] – more times than not on that, we’re trying to get the defense to move laterally, and we’re thinking outside post [route and] rail [route] to the back [of the end zone]. I don’t even know if we ever hit Zay one time on that part of it, but he saw the reaction of the safety and made an unbelievable play to be real honest.”
Jackson has wowed audiences this year with his off-script play ability, and offensive coordinator Todd Monken called that aspect of the quarterback’s game a strength. He also talked about Jackson’s anticipation and communication, both key to his success.
