The Baltimore Ravens have been known for producing multiple talented players at cornerback over their 26-year history. From cornerbacks Chris McAlister to Jimmy Smith and plenty of others, the team knows how to make sure its secondary is one of the best even if they have to go through injuries from time-to-time
Two of the Ravens cornerbacks were recently ranked as one of the best duos in the NFL. In an article published by Kambui Bomani of Pro Football Focus that detailed the top five offensive and defensive duos ahead of the 2022 NFL season, Bomani placed Baltimore cornerbacks Marcus Peters and Marlon Humphrey as the fifth best defensive duo in the NFL. When detailing why, Bomani credited Peters with the sixth best WAR average at cornerback since 2017 and Humphrey with the fifth-best WAR figure during that same span.
“Peters missed all of last year with a torn ACL but owns the sixth-best cornerback WAR figure since 2017. Slot cornerback Marlon Humphrey has the fifth-best WAR average during that time span and is looking to bounce back after a down year of playing out of position. A new defensive coordinator and an infusion of younger and fresher secondary talent can bring the best out of this cornerback duo heading into 2022.”
Peters and Humphrey are considered two of the best at their positions. However, they both suffered season-ending injuries in 2021 with Peters going down with a torn ACL prior to the start of the season while Humphrey suffered a torn pectoral muscle in Week 13 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. With both players expected to be back on the field in 2022, the pair could rise in the rankings even more with how talented they both are.
