The Baltimore Ravens are currently slated to have five draft selections in the 2023 NFL draft. They hold pick No. 22 in the first round, and could look to possibly trade the selection for more assets if they don’t stand pat and pick a player in that spot.
In his latest 2023 NFL mock draft, Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports has Baltimore adding offensive firepower in Texas running back Bijan Robinson. When explaining his choice, Wilson talked about the talent that Robinson is and why he’s the choice for the Ravens despite the team having more pressing needs.
“Bijan Robinson is special, and while he is probably one of the best players in this class, he could still be around late in Round 1 because he’s a running back. And while the Ravens and offensive coordinator Greg Roman have parted ways, it’s fair to assume that the team will still revolve around Lamar Jackson and the run game. J.K. Dobbins showed flashes after returning from ACL surgery, but there isn’t a lot of depth behind him. A backfield of Jackson, Dobbins and Robinson is a problem for the rest of the AFC, even if Baltimore has more pressing needs here.”
Wilson is right in the fact that Robinson is talented, as well as the fact that Baltimore has much more pressing needs. Taking a wide receiver or a cornerback at No. 22 seems to make much more sense at the moment, despite how good Robinson projects to be at the NFL level.
