Tributes have been paid to well-known Rathmines man Charlie Best following his "untimely" death.
Charlie was a member of Rathmines Initiative, a local group that was formed in 1998 to improve the quality of life in the south Dublin area.
He passed away peacefully after a short illness on Friday, January 21, while surrounded by his loving family.
And the group paid a heartfelt tribute to Charlie on Facebook, saying: "The Rathmines Initiative is very sad to hear of the untimely death of our friend and colleague, Charlie Best.
"We extend our condolences to his wife, Alice, and all his family and many friends."
Charlie will be laid to rest on Wednesday and the funeral mass will take place at Church of Mary Immaculate, Refuge of Sinners, Rathmines.
A notice on RIP.ie: "The death has occured of Best, Charlie (Upper Rathmines Road, Dublin) passed away peacefully Friday 21st January 2022 after a short illness, in the wonderful care of the ICU staff, St. James’s Hospital, surrounded by his family and his good friend Monsignor Eoin Thynne.
"Sadly missed by his wife and best friend Alice Leahy, his son Kieran, daughter Michelle and daughters-in-law Carol and Jacinta, his brothers and sisters, his grandchildren Nadine, Caitríona, Laura, Alan, Marcus and Kieran and great-granddaughter Sophia, The Swan Leisure Centre, Maxwell Court Art Group, Fair City and Lawlors Butchers, his neighbours and his wide circle of friends. Pre-deceased by his late wife Sheila and sons Declan and Alan."
