Leeds United picked up a valiant point against Champions League-chasing Newcastle United at Elland Road - but the true value of it remains to be seen.
Sam Allardyce told his players before the game that they could not afford to lose this one, and so he will have been pleased by many aspects of the battling performance. Leeds roared into an early lead through Luke Ayling and should have been two goals ahead when they were awarded a penalty, only for Patrick Bamford to miss from 12 yards.
That blow was doubled soon after when Newcastle were awarded a penalty of their own and Callum Wilson made no mistake. In an even content, Leeds were rocked when Junior Firpo handled inside the box to give the Magpies another chance from 12 yards - and again Wilson converted.

But Allardyce's men got the point they at least deserved when Rasmus Kristensen's effort from a half-cleared corner was deflected past Nick Pope by Kieran Trippier.
It means Leeds still have plenty of work to do with two games remaining, but there were encouraging signs.
