Rasul Douglas Thought Packers GM Pranked Him About Trade to Bills

Cornerback Rasul Douglas was traded to the Bills by the Packers right before the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday, and the 28-year-old himself couldn’t believe it.

On Tuesday around 3 p.m. central time, Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst called Douglas and informed him of the trade. The cornerback didn’t believe what Gutekunst said, so he hung up on him, ESPN’s Alaina Getzenberg reported.

It took Packers president Mark Murphy calling Douglas to thank him for his time with the organization before he realized the trade was really happening.

When joining the Bills on Wednesday, Buffalo listed Douglas on the injury list even though he’s been healthy all season. It’s unclear if he’ll make his Bills debut against the Bengals on Sunday or not.

Douglas joined the Packers ahead of the 2021 season and quickly became one of the team’s top defensive players. In his first year with the team, he had five interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. In 2022, Douglas totaled a career-high 85 total tackles, along with four interceptions. He already has 32 tackles and one interception through seven games this season.
