Rasmus Kristensen to Leeds United 'edges closer' ahead of exciting transfer

Leeds United are a step closer to securing the signing of Danish right-back Rasmus Kristensen ahead of a move from RB Salzburg - the second potential signing from the club. Last week, the West Yorkshire side announced that they had secured Brenden Aaronson who joined for £25 million.

And today, it looks like a move for Ramus Kristensen is indeed heading in the right direction. The exciting 24-year-old right-back has been described as the best defender in Austria after an impressive season with Marsch's former side.

The Danish defender is being touted for a £10million move away from the Red Bull Arena this summer, with Jesse Marsch keen on a rendezvous with the 24-year-old.

Borussia Dortmund and Brentford are also reportedly keen on the defender, but Leeds know they have a growing problem at right-back if their injury problems worsen. Kristensen would provide good competition for Luke Ayling upon his return from injury, having played in the Champions League with Salzburg last year.

And transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has now reported that a move is close. He said: "Rasmus Kristensen, one step away from joining Leeds. The agreement with RB Salzburg is now close as Jesse Marsch wants him as new righ back. LUFC's Tuesday’s opening bid around €10m now set to be accepted."

He began his career with FC Midtjylland, coming through the club's academy and became a key player during the 2016-17 season. His fine form back in his native country saw Ajax come calling in 2018 and he signed a four-year deal with the Eredivisie club.

The Dane won the Eredivisie title in 2018/19 and won the KNVB Cup in the same season, making 20 appearances at the Johan Criyff Arena. After just one-and-a-half year in the Netherlands, Kristensen moved to Austria and penned a five-year contract with RB Salzburg and has enjoyed a trophy laden tenure.

He's won back to back league and cup doubles and was part of the side that reached the last 16 of the Champions League. Kristensen has made four appearances for his national side, making his debut against the Faroe Islands in a World Cup qualifier last September, he was substituted at half-time.
