Rasmus Kristensen fitness hint as Leeds United right-back receives call-up

Leeds United’s Rasmus Kristensen has been deemed fit enough to meet up with the Denmark national team later this month. The right-back picked up an injury in training at the start of September and as a result he was forced to watch the Whites’ last outing at Brentford from the sidelines.

The injury was initially thought to be a minor one, but following reports elsewhere about the severity of the issue, there were fears that Kristensen could be set to spend a while longer in the Whites’ treatment room at Thorp Arch. However, the 25-year-old’s call-up by Denmark provides a strong indication about his fitness.

Fortunately for the Dane, Leeds will not play again until October 2, meaning he isn’t expected to miss any more Premier League game time for United. Kristensen will hope to play a key role for his country, too, this month as their Nations League campaign reaches a dramatic conclusion.

Denmark are currently sitting at the top of their group and they know a win in Zagreb against Croatia on September 22 would be enough to secure their spot in the Nations League Finals next year. Kasper Hjulmand’s side will play host to France in Copenhagen on September 25, too, in their final group stage game.

With the World Cup looming large on the horizon now, this month will also be Kristensen’s last chance to make an impression on Hjulmand before the head coach names his squad for Qatar. He has been preferred to Trabzonspor full-back Jens Stryger Larsen of late, but the former Red Bull Salzburg man will be keen to prove his worth by performing and training well this month.

Kristensen has won eight caps for Denmark, with his debut coming in September 2021 against Faroe Islands.
