Atalanta star Rasmus Hojlund admits he "must have done something right" if Manchester United are tracking him ahead of a potential swoop
The Red Devils are being heavily linked with the young Dane, who has continued to impress in Serie A. He only joined Atalanta last summer from Sturm Graz, but now a £40m price tag has been slapped on the 20-year-old, who scored nine times last season.
United have made adding a No 9 their priority this summer and Hojlund fits the profile of player they are looking for. The Dane, who will be involved in upcoming international qualifiers against Northern Ireland and Slovenia, appears open to a switch but is equally content in Bergamo.
He told Tipsbladet on the interest in him: "It is a huge club, so I must have done something right if it’s rumoured they want me. We have to see what happens. As you see and hear, I imagine a lot could happen to quite a few strikers this summer, as many clubs are looking for a no9. Something will definitely happen there, and then we’ll have to wait and see if I am included in it.
"I am very happy to be with Atalanta and we have qualified for Europe. I have found myself in a really good place here, so now we have to wait and see."
It is reported that Hojlund has recently joined agency group SEG, who also represent United boss Erik ten Hag. That could enhance his chances of a switch to the Premier League with Atalanta proving they have an appetite for selling players at the right price.
Amad made the move from the Italian side to Manchester for a hefty fee, although he's not yet been given enough chances to prove his worth. They've also cashed in on the likes of Cristian Romero, Dejan Kulusevski and Franck Kessie in recent years.
United's interest in Hojlund has ramped up with the club keen on signing a young forward for the future as well as an established one who can fire them to more silverware. Harry Kane has been their most talked about target with his contract at Tottenham entering its final year.
There is a growing expectation however that the Red Devils will not move for Kane due to Tottenham's reluctance to sell, especially to a domestic rival. As an alternative, Napoli's Victor Osimhen, who has just won Serie A, is also on their radar, but he will not come cheap despite being open to a move away from Italy.
