NEW DELHI: Rashid Khan has etched his name in history as the highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket, surpassing all others following MI Cape Town's victory over Paarl Royals in the SA20 semi-final.

The Afghan spinner’s figures of 2-33 propelled his total to 633 wickets, overtaking former West Indies star Dwayne Bravo’s record by two wickets.

At just 26, Rashid’s remarkable tally includes 161 T20 international wickets and 472 from domestic and franchise competitions, featuring stints with Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Titans, Adelaide Strikers, Sussex Sharks, and Trent Rockets.

His record-breaking feat comes in 461 matches at an impressive average of 18.08, whereas Bravo’s 631 wickets were taken over 582 matches at an average of 24.40.

Rashid’s milestone performance helped MI Cape Town bowl out the Royals for 160, securing a 39-run victory in Gqeberha after posting 199-4. Cape Town now advances to the final on February 8.

The Royals still have another shot at reaching the final, facing either Sunrisers Eastern Cape or Joburg Super Kings in Thursday’s qualifier, following their eliminator clash on Wednesday.
