Rashford explains why he was dropped vs Wolves as Shaw praises Ten Hag's Manchester United approach

Here are your Manchester United morning headlines on Sunday, January 1.

Rashford reveals why he was dropped against Wolves

Marcus Rashford was dropped from the starting line up for Manchester United's win over Wolves because he overslept and missed a team meeting.

The 25-year-old was demoted to a place on the bench for United's trip to Molineux on Saturday lunchtime after missing a team meeting earlier in the week. Erik ten Hag confirmed ahead of the game that Rashford had lost his place in the attack because of an 'internal disciplinary' issue involving the forward.

Teenage forward Alejandro Garnacho started in his place, but the England international came to United's rescue when he was brought on at half-time and went on to score the only goal of the game.

When pushed on the reason behind his absence, Rashford said: "I was a little bit late for a meeting. I slept in, overslept. It can happen."

Luke Shaw praises Erik ten Hag approach at Man United

Luke Shaw has praised Erik ten Hag for his disciplined approach since taking charge of Manchester United.

The Dutchman has brought authority back to the managerial role at the club and made it clear that he isn't afraid to drop any player who isn't up to his elite standards.

Ten Hag dropped Marcus Rashford from the starting line-up for United's trip to face Wolves on Saturday following an 'internal disciplinary' issue involving the forward. Rashford netted the only goal of the game when he was brought on at half-time, with Alejandro Garnacho selected ahead of him from the start.

Speaking after the 1-0 win, Shaw was asked about Ten Hag's authoritative approach following the decision to drop their in-form striker. He said: "People can't do whatever they want, maybe that has been the problem in the past - people getting away with silly little things."
