Just six days before Halloween, Scots will have a chance to see a rare event that makes it look as if a chunk is missing from the Sun.
The astronomical event, called a partial solar eclipse, will take place on Tuesday, 25 October. It occurs when the Moon’s orbit lines up closely with the Sun.
The moon's dark disc will cross in front of the bright Sun, and according to The Week Junior Science+Nature, will appear as if 'someone has taken a bite out of the Sun'. The partial eclipse will last for about two hours – starting at about 10.10am, it will reach its maximum by 11.00am and will be all done by 11.50am.
