Rare Olympics coin being sold for just £1.27 as experts hail it a 'must have' for collectors

A UK seller has taken to eBay to auction off a rare coin that experts say is some of the most sought-after change.

Taking to the online marketplace, one lucky individual who has it in their possession is selling the rare 'Wrestling Olympic' 50p coin - and it's already got some bids.

With only two days to go, collectors will want to act fast should they wish to secure it thanks to its impressive rating of 83 - marking it as "Very Scarce" on Change Checker's Scarcity Index. And better yet, it's currently got a bid for just £1.27 - but it could go for a lot more, with experts saying coins like these can easily fetch around £200, if people are willing to pay of course.

According to Change Checker, the 50p Wrestling coin is "one of the original sports in the programme of the ancient Olympic Games in Greece in 776 BC.

"While Greco-Roman is the 'original' style, freestyle wrestling grew in popularity across the UK and USA, and both are now Olympic events."

Designed by Roderick Enriquez, a graphic designer from London, the coin has a circulating mintage of 1,129,500

The coin is being sold, at present, for under £2. (eBay)

Speaking to Glasgow Live about the coins, Rachel Hooper, Product Group Manager for Change Checker who has been working in the industry for five years specialising in UK new issue coins and championing the hobby of change collecting, has said that they are the coins that "kickstarted" the craze of coin collecting.

She explained: "Those were celebrating the London Olympics and the mintage figure of each of those are really quite low, they're sort of around the 1.1 million to two million mark which although it sounds like a lot, when you consider the population of the UK, it's actually a really small number."
