It was the fire that marked the end for one of the city centre's foremost ballrooms and its aftermath was all captured on film.
On February 27, 1974, a blaze broke out in the basement of the Albert Ballroom in Bath Street, badly damaging the building in the process.
Around 50 firefighters battled for more than an hour trying to get the fire under control, but were unable to save the stricken venue, which at the time was also home to Joanna's disco.

It was reported that four staff had been forced to flee the two-storey structure as the flames quickly spread and smoke billowed from windows. Thankfully, no casualties were reported.
Footage captured by British Movietone shows multiple fire appliances on the scene in front of the blackened frontage of the building, which was located opposite what is now the Renfield Centre at the junction with Bath Street and Holland Street.
For generations of Glaswegians, the ballroom had been the place to let your hair down and get your body moving to the latest dancing trends.

The venue, which was originally called the Warren Academy of Dancing, was opened by John and Annie Warren in 1905 and was the first ballroom in the country to welcome dancers six nights a week.
A fire in 1953 threatened the future of the famous night spot, but the ballroom was able to reopen and survived another two decades.
New owners took over the Albert in 1965 and attempted to modernise their offering by adding Joanna's disco in the basement portion of the building, but their dreams were in tatters nine years later as a second fire tore through the building, leaving it in a semi-ruinous state.
Joanna's nightclub did later reopen, but the Albert Ballroom itself was now sadly a thing of the past. Today, the office building Berkley House occupies the site of the former venue.
