Rare first edition of Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird found in charity shop donation box

• A rare first edition of Harper Lee 's classic 1960 novel To Kill A Mockingbird has been discovered in a donation to an Oxfam bookshop in west London.
• The book was found amongst a box of donated American titles at the Portobello Road branch.
• The British Library has acquired the rare copy, which will join the institution’s national collection.
• Shop manager Olivia Haysman-Walker, who established the novel was a first US edition, said: “The dust jacket showed its age, and although it was worn around the edges, the pages inside were in beautiful condition.”
• Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning story of racial injustice has sold over 40 million copies worldwide.
