Rare Beatles album worth £1,000 donated to charity shop

A rare first edition copy of The Beatles' 1968 White Album worth £1,000 has been donated to a charity shop. Volunteers at the British Heart Foundation shop discovered the piece of music memorabilia while sorting through a box of donated items.

It is thought to be incredibly rare, featuring a misprint unique to the first version of the record of which there are only 10,000 copies. The White Album, The Beatles ninth studio album, followed the hit Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

The Fab Four released the double LP on November 22, 1968 with hits 'Helter Skelter' and 'While my guitar gently weeps' featuring. The record, complete with fold-out poster of the Fab Four, was donated to the branch in Sutton Coldfield last week.

The original first pressing also includes a misprint on the cover as well as a low serial number of 0004528. It is now being offered on eBay for £1,000 with the money raised going to the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Richard Pallier, head of charity’s retail online, said: “Our music and vinyl experts were thrilled when this valuable piece of music history was donated to the BHF. Despite its age, the album is in good condition, and Beatles fans and collectors can now place their bids through our eBay site.

“High-value items like this allow us to continue to carry out our lifesaving research and make a difference to the 7.6 million people living with heart and circulatory diseases in the UK. We would urge others to think of the BHF when donating preloved items.”
