A rare 50p coin has been successfully auctioned on eBay for an astonishing £150, and there are many others like it still in circulation.
The coin in question was released in 2009 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Kew Gardens in London in 1759.
On one side, the coin displays the well-known Chinese Pagoda at the Royal Botanic Garden, while the other side features the Queen's portrait as usual.

According to the Royal Mint, there are approximately 210,000 of the coins in circulation in total.
The latest auction for the coin ended last Tuesday, when the seller was able to sell their rare piece of memorabilia for £150 — approximately 300 times its original value.
As reported by the Daily Record, the Kew Gardens coin was first put up for auction on the site for 99p, but it wasn't long before the price surged.
The listing on the website referred to the coin as a "Kew Gardens 50p genuine 2009 circulated Great Condition Fifty Pence RARE".
According to website Coin Hunter, the average price the 50p coin is being sold for is between £150.89 and £161.50, though it has gone for as much as £200 in the past.
If you find a Kew Gardens 50p in your change soon, the first thing you should do is check the date on it. This is because the Royal Mint reissued a batch of the coins in 2019 to celebrate 50 years of the 50p - and this version doesn’t tend to sell for as much.
But you could still be in for an exciting payday if you find one of the coins, as they can sell for between £70 and £80 on eBay.
