Rapper Travis Scott, known for his success in the hip-hop industry, was arrested by Miami Beach police early Thursday on misdemeanor charges of trespassing and public intoxication. The 33-year-old artist, whose birth name is Jacques Webster, posted a $650 bond and is expected to be released later today, according to Miami-Dade County jail records.
Details surrounding the arrest have not been immediately provided by Miami Beach police. Scott's publicists did not respond to requests for comment, and no attorney is listed for him in jail records. His agent also did not respond to inquiries.
Scott has achieved significant success in his music career, with over 100 songs making the Billboard Hot 100 chart and four singles reaching the top spot, including hits like “Sicko Mode” and “Highest in the Room.”
The arrest comes after a tragic incident at Scott's 2021 Astroworld Festival in Houston, where ten people lost their lives in a crowd surge. The victims, aged 9 to 27, died from compression asphyxia due to overcrowding at the event. Lawsuits filed by victims' lawyers alleged negligence in event planning and safety measures.
Scott, along with promoter Live Nation and others named in the lawsuits, denied the claims of negligence, stating that safety was their top priority and that the tragic events could not have been foreseen. Following a police investigation, a grand jury decided not to indict Scott and five others associated with the festival.
The final lawsuit related to the Astroworld tragedy was recently settled, bringing some closure to the legal proceedings surrounding the incident.
