Rapper MF Doom's family, friends and fans were devastated when he died aged 49 in October 2020.
His wife Jasmine broke the news on social media on New Year's Eve with a tribute on the rapper's Instagram page that left his fans around the world stunned.
It has now emerged the Hip Hop legend was being treated at St James's Hospital in Leeds when he died suddenly during the Covid pandemic.
MF Doom, real name Dumile Daniel Thompson, was rushed to the hospital after suffering a 'rare' reaction to his new blood pressure medication.
An inquest heard his condition suddenly deteriorated while he was staying at the hospital.
His wife revealed he developed breathing problems, with his throat swelling, after taking two doses of the new medication.
Jasmine questioned the ins and outs of her husband's treatment and claimed he wasn't able to call medical staff as his emergency buzzer was out of reach.
The rapper struggled with his breather and called her in a panic when his situation got worse. The wife of the popular star claimed he was staying in a room that seemed to be "a hospital room a very long time ago."
As reported by Leeds Live, she told Wakefield Coroner's Court: "I don't want to say it was an old storage room... it wasn't set up. Maybe it was a room a long time ago. It did have a bed in it."
The inquest heard Jasmine was still on the phone to her sick husband when she used another phone to alert the nurses to his deteriorating condition.
"I was not able to see him until the 31st (of October) - that's when the respirator was turned off that was helping him breathe," she said.
On October 21, the rapper complained about having breathing difficulties and tried to get off the hospital troller before collapsing and suffering respiratory arrest.
Jasmine's legal team questioned how often Mr Thompson was checked in on by medical staff at the Leeds hospital.
They questioned why it took two hours to give him medication for his swollen throat.
According to the inquest, he seemed to be getting better as he ate food, drank water and his oxygen levels were said to be good.
Doctors told how the swelling was a 'rare' side effect of taking ACE inhibitors.
It caused a condition called Angioedema, where part of the body suddenly becomes swollen.
MF Doom has a huge fan base and was well known for his album Madvillainy.
Following his death, Jasmed paid tribute to her husband and hailed the musician as the "greatest husband, father, teacher, student, business partner, lover and friend".
