Rapist Paul Quinn jailed after man wrongly served 17 years in prison for his crime

  • Andrew Malkinson, who was wrongly imprisoned for 17 years, expressed his insult at the "soft" sentence given to Paul Quinn, the real perpetrator of a 2003 rape.
  • Paul Quinn was sentenced to 21 years in custody with a three-year extended licence for the rape, making him eligible for parole after 14 years.
  • Malkinson highlighted that Quinn, who has a history of violence, could be released sooner than the 17 years he, an innocent man, served.
  • Malkinson's conviction was quashed in 2023 after DNA evidence proved his innocence, with his case considered one of Britain's worst miscarriages of justice.
  • The judge, Mr Justice Bright, praised the victim's bravery and noted Quinn's awareness that another man had been wrongly imprisoned for his crime.
