Raphinha 'turns down' Newcastle United transfer ahead of Barcelona switch, reports

Newcastle United 'target' Raphinha has reportedly turned down a move to St James' Park according to reports in Spain. Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, claims the Brazilian international is set for a £60million move to the Nou Camp, just days after Leeds United accepted a similar bid from Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Raphinha's agent is former Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder Deco and is understood to have his heart set on a move to the La Liga giants. Romero said: "Barça and Leeds, about to close the deal for Raphinha. Barça offers a figure around 60million. Barça and Raphinha have agreed a salary of 6M net per season. In recent days, the player turned down an offer from Newcastle."

The Magpies have been linked with a move for the 25-year-old since the beginning of the window and it's unclear whether an official approach has been by the club. However, Barcelona's recent move to sell some of their TV rights in order to aid their financial woes, could pave the way for Raphinha's move to Spain.

The Blaugrana have also been linked with a move for Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski but the reports claim Xavi's side now look set to beat Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea to the punch. The Blues were believed to be in contract talks with the Leeds winger but Romero claims Barca's last ditch hijack has been successful.
