Rape charge dropped against top equestrian

Rape and stalking charges have been dropped against Callum Edward Buczak. (AAP)

Olympic equestrian hopeful Callum Buczak will no longer face trial after charges against him were dropped.

The 27-year-old had been accused of stalking and raping a fellow rider at Frankston in February 2019.

Mr Buczak was set to face a trial at the County Court in Melbourne within days over the allegations, but his lawyer Damian Sheales has confirmed the charges against his client have been discontinued.

The Office of Public Prosecutions issued a statement to AAP late on Thursday, saying that at this stage there were matters still before the court.

"As such it is inappropriate to comment," the statement said.
