Another week down, another week to evaluate the performances of the multiple rookie starting quarterbacks in the league. We once again saw a mixed bag from all the rookies, but also saw some flashes from some newcomers.
Let’s take a look at each rookie and rank their Week 8 performances from best to worst:
1. Will Levis, QB, Tennessee Titans
That’s certainly one way to start your career. Will Levis became only the second quarterback ever to throw for four touchdowns with zero turnovers in his first start, matching former Tennessee Titans rookie who also wore #8 Marcus Mariota. Levis looked comfortable in this offense and was not afraid to whip the ball down the field. Levis came back to ear against the Steelers on Thursday Night Football against the Steelers, but it does not take away from his week one showcase.
2. Bryce Young, QB, Carolina Panthers
It’s finally starting to click for Bryce Young and this Carolina Panthers’ offense as he experienced his best game yet in their first win of the season. Young showed off some of his elite traits versus fellow rookie C.J. Stroud and make the Houston Texans defense look silly at times. If Young continues to progress at his current rate he could quickly insert himself into the offensive rookie of the year conversation.
3. C.J. Stroud, QB, Houston Texans
Stroud falls out of the number one spot for the first time this season following a below average showing against fellow rookie Bryce Young. It was hard for Stroud to find any opening to throw the ball following a successful opening drive and he subsequently had his worst game of the season. Stroud still looked solid as a passer and it’s not exactly shocking for a rookie to hit bumps in the road. Stroud is still the clear front runner for offensive rookie of the year and should get back on track against the Minnesota Vikings this week.
4. Tyson Bagent, QB, Chicago Bears
Tyson Bagent quickly came back down to earth in a blowout loss to the Los Angeles Chargers where he started to look more like a rookie. Granted, it’s still impressive an undrafted free agent from a division II school is even here and playing at the level he is. Bagent still put up respectable numbers in yardage and completion percentage, but his multiple turnovers ultimately buried his teams chance of success. Bagent will get another shot this week against the New Orleans Saints to prove himself moving forward.
