A host of NFL teams will be throwing it back, so to speak, during the 2023 season.
In an effort to give players more stylish on-field clothing options — cough, also sell more merchandise, cough — we’re going to see a variety of different pro football eras on display this fall. From the halcyon days of the 1970s to the Pacific Northwest “grunge” time of the 1990s, seemingly everyone will get their due.
Of course, some uniforms look fabulous, and some should probably merit a revisiting of the drawing board. And I’ll rank all of them. I’m counting everything in my criteria — helmet and uniform. But, a team must have submitted both to qualify for this ranking.
It can’t be one or the other.

The all-white look does nothing for me in most professional sports. While these uniforms are from the Browns’ glory days, they especially feel a little lazy. They’re like someone forgot their colored pencils and used an orange highlighter to occasionally fill in the blanks.

These may have come from when the Vikings were known as the “Purple People-Eaters,” but they’re awfully bland. If a delightful accent like purple is part of your color scheme, it’s gotta look more stylish than this.

Never mind the suddenly inept Patriots trying to distract from their recent incompetence with two throwback uniform games — these are fantastic. I cannot believe someone ever saw that marvelous red-and-white combo and thought it should be jettisoned.

Perhaps nothing screams “1970s Florida” more than these lovely creamsicle uniforms. They are absolute classics, and they make me kind of hungry for a popsicle every time I see them.

These uniforms were some of the best in football history, and it’s a real shame someone decided to make the Titans look extremely generic once they moved to Nashville.

A uniform that hasn’t been revealed yet but gets a generous benefit of the doubt. Randall Cunningham once dazzled in the Kelly Greens, and I can’t wait to see Jalen Hurts and Co. do the same.

Oh. My. Goodness. These are marvelous. That rich royal blue. The old-school Seahawk logo with a hint of lime green. That silver helmet with a blue facemask. I’m starting a petition to ensure Seattle wears these full-time because they’re flawless.
