One reason that we are excited about the Seattle Seahawks’ schedule in 2024 is that they will be facing a lot of rookie quarterbacks. There’s always a chance that one of them could break out early like C.J. Stroud last season, but most first-year QBs tend to struggle, even some of them that go on to make the Hall of Fame some day. It will be particularly difficult for them to succeed against Seattle, anyway. While the Seahawks re-signed Leonard Williams and added another big piece up front in Byron Murphy II, the biggest move the franchise made this offseason was hiring Mike Macdonald as their head coach.
Serving as the Ravens’ defensive coordinator over the last two years, Macdonald put together the best defense in all of football. Guys like Roquan Smith, Kyle Hamilton and Justin Madubuike deserve a good deal of the credit. However, Macdonald’s schematic prowess was a huge factor in Baltimore’s ascendance on this side of the ball. Whereas former Seattle head coach Pete Carroll almost never disguised his coverages, Macdonald is the polar opposite, frequently rotating defensive backs and generally offering deceptive looks to the offense pre-snap. That’s especially tough on rookies, most of whom haven’t yet learned how to read post-snap movement and adjust accordingly. Macdonald also put together some pretty mean pass rush packages, getting resurgent years out of Jadeveon Clowney and Kyle Van Noy on the edge and turning Madubuike into a superstar inside.
Add it all up and you’ve got a defense that will be very tough for first-year quarterbacks to score against. With that in mind, today let’s take a look at the slate of quarterbacks Macdonald will be drawing up Xs and Os against. Here’s how we rank all 14 quarterbacks the Seahawks will face this season.
