There are usually plenty of diddy comments on the Hotline – like, diddy really say that?
But Celtic fan Eddie Easson struck a raw nerve with Rangers fans after his casual dismissal of the Europa League Final ahead of the Ibrox men’s date with destiny.
Lewis Fotheringham, Mount Ellen, said: “Hotliner Eddie Easson dismissed the Europa League as a 'diddy' competition.
“Could this possibly be the same 'diddy' tournament Celtic couldn't get past the group stages in?”
Gary Shields, via email, said: “ Europa League is a diddy cup? Is that the same diddy cup your club took 35 million supporters to seen them play against another diddy club called Porto, who beat Celtic 3-2 by the way?”
Alfie Mullin, London, said: “As a Celtic supporter, he should know all about diddy competitions – Celtic are the biggest diddies to grace any European competition.”
Jack Hutchison, Clydebank, said: “I wonder if the reported 100,000 Celtic fans that went to Seville thought the same when they played in the competition also about Rangers opposition.
“Dortmund are higher in their league than the Leverkusen side that an all over Celtic this year. I rest my case.”
Joe Smith, Coleraine, said: “The reason the big clubs aren't in the Europe League Final is because Rangers and Frankfurt have knocked them out.
“Barcelona, Dortmund and RB Leipzig are a bit of a step up from Vojvodina, Nantes and Dukla Prague. Jealousy is a terrible thing.”
George Wilson, West Sussex, said: “Rangers being bumped down the leagues in 2012 , losing most of their players and having to climb back up has only made their achievement of winning the league title by 25 points last year and now being close to winning a European trophy the more remarkable and in fact quite incredible.”
Gers fans are flocking to Seville but there’s been disappointment for the ones left behind.
Robert Livingston, Palm Beach, said: “Now you see the gulf between the Rangers directors and the fans when they won't show the Final live at Ibrox.
“As for Stewart Robertson ’s silly comment that it's too difficult as every Ibrox worker will be in sunny Seville, it seems there is not a soul left to turn on the giant screen.
“It’s disgraceful treatment for many season ticket holders who want to be together for the match.
While Jonny Robinson, Edinburgh, said: “Just like Seville, even Rangers as a club don’t want to host their own fans.
“Typical small club mentality. Meanwhile Rangers fans saying the league means nothing, why do you buy season tickets then ? I hope you get beat in the final.”
Nice. Celtic have a title party today though and Robert Leckenby, Stonehouse, said: “Let's hope there's plenty of humble pie on the supermarket shelves for the Ange Who? And the ‘he'll be out by Christmas’ brigade.”
Hoops hero Scott Brown takes his first steps in to management with Fleetwood Town.
Robert McEwan, Mount Vernon, said: “I hope Scott Brown’s managerial career is like his playing days – off the scale.
“I also hope to see him back at Paradise in the next four or five years after Ange picks a few more trophies.”
The season can’t end soon enough for some though as Iain Allan, Linlithgow, said: “A dismal end to what has been a desperate season for Aberdeen fans.
“We need a couple of forwards who can score goals and two decent defenders that can do the basics.
"Season ticket holders should be getting a refund.”
