Rangers vs Celtic 'likely' split fixture date as Hoops 'learn' potential title party venue

The date for the final Old Firm derby has been revealed, according to a report.

The Scottish Sun claim that Rangers will host Celtic at Ibrox on the weekend of May 13/14 in the second round of split fixtures with the Hoops offered the chance of clinching the Premiership crown at Tynecastle against Hearts in the first game on May 6/7.

SPFL bosses are expected to announce the full post-split list today after talks with clubs and TV bosses as Ange Postecoglou's men bid to clinch back to back titles in front of a small band of fans in the capital. The league leaders are 13 points clear at the summit and need just one more win to officially be crowned champions.

Michael Beale and his Rangers side face Celtic at Hampden this weekend in the Scottish Cup last four as they bid to reach the final and end the Treble hopes of their arch rivals. It's a competition the Light Blues won last season with the winner of the semi-final the heavy favourite to go on and lift the trophy with Falkirk or Inverness the opponent in the showpiece.

Both sides head into the clash off the back of dropping points at the weekend. Celtic had a rare slip up at Parkhead as they drew 1-1 wit Motherwell while the Light Blues were defeated 2-0 at Aberdeen as Barry Robson's fine run of results was extended to seven wins on the bounce in the race for third spot.

They lead Hearts by five points going into the season run-in after Steven Naismith's men brought an end to their poor run of results to thrash relegation-threatened Ross County 6-1 in Gorgie last time out.
