The 2022/23 campaign is just around the corner as the summer is well underway.
Rangers are gearing up to battle it out for the cinch Premiership title, with Champions League qualifiers also awaiting. However, it has been a quiet summer so far for the Govan side, with supporters desperate to see some new recruits put pen to paper in the coming days and weeks.
Gio van Bronckhorst 's side have already tied down Connor Goldson, Steven Davis and Scott Arfield but there is much more to do before the 2022/23 campaign kicks off. Zak Lovelace and John Souttar have joined the side, with sights now set on securing a striker to challenge Alfredo Morelos' spot in the squad. The Light Blues may also be starting off the new season without Joe Aribo who has reportedly turned down a new contract with the club amid interest from club's south of the border.
Joe Aribo
Joe Aribo has reportedly rejected a new contract offer from Rangers. The midfielder has just one year left on his current contract at Ibrox, but he may be calling time on his stint in Govan this summer with interest from south of the border.
The Nigeria international could opt to take on a new challenge next season, with reports claiming he could quit Ibrox as early as next week. English Premier League clubs including Southampton, Crystal Palace Nottingham Forest and Fulham have all shown interest in the 25-year-old.
Boss Gio van Bronckhorst had hoped the 25-year-old would join the likes of Connor Goldson, Scott Arfield, Steven Davis and Allan McGregor by committing his future to the club. However, Football Scotland suggest Aribo could be on the way out of the club by the end of next week.
His exit could see the Light Blues bank a healthy profit after securing the Nigerian from Charlton Athletic for a fee of £300,000 back in 2019.
Antonio Colak
Antonio Colak remains the number one target at Ibrox as Gio van Bronckhorst seeks some competition for Alfredo Morelos up top. He has struggled to make his mark at PAOK and spent the first half of last season on loan at Malmo where he rediscovered his shooting boots, but couldn't bring his form back to his parent club.
It meant that the door was opened for his exit, with Rangers leading the race for his signature. However, according to BwinSPORT , PAOK are in no rush to sell Colak after an injury to Nelson Oliveria. They state the club are "anxious" over the extent of the injury to their first choice striker, meaning they could hold on to the Croat.
Ellis Simms
Rangers are reportedly monitoring Everton's Ellis Simms with plans to launch a bid for the striker this summer, according to The Express. The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Hearts, scoring seven times in 21 games across all competitions.
However, the Ibrox outfit are not the only ones eyeing up the forward as Middlesborough are also understood to be interested in securing his signature, with Millwall are ‘leading the chase’ as things stand.
Hearts were keen to bring Simms back to Tynecastle on a permanent this summer, but Everton's £500,000 tag for the striker has ultimately priced the Jambos out of the race.
