Rangers transfer state of play as Nicolas Raskin kickstarts Standard Liege rebuild while Morgan Whittaker hope remains

Michael Beale has landed his first signing as Rangers boss with Todd Cantwell now in the building and officially unveiled at Ibrox.

The deal to bring the playmaker to the Scottish Premiership from Norwich City looks unlikely to be the last bit of business this month with plenty of names on the agenda as Beale looks to steer Rangers to silverware this term. The Londoner has openly spoken about his interest in Nicolas Raskin and Morgan Whittaker, and fans will hope that those two deals can get over the line before the end of the month.

With a host of players out of contract at Ibrox in the summer the Light Blues' recruitment appears to be focussed on the future with a host of young talent touted to arrive in Govan. Beale and sporting director Ross WIlson are also reportedly looking towards the end of Allan McGregor's contract and who could arrive as the next number one.

But where do Rangers stand at this stage of the winter window? Record Sport takes a look.

Nicolas Raskin

Nicolas Raskin appears to be edging closer to a move to Rangers - and Ronny Deila is already planning for life without the Belgian U21 cap. It’s been two months since the 21-year-old featured for his Standard Liege after a fallout with the club after knocking back a contract extension.

A January move always appeared likely and with the wages of Raskin set to be offloaded Voetbalnieuws report the former Celtic boss is keen to secure some last minute deals. Speaking ahead of Friday's clash with Eupen, he said: "Two or three acquisitions would be great. That is what we are working on now."

Noah Sadiki

The 18-year-old right-back has been linked as with a move to Ibrox after enjoying a breakthrough campaign at Anderlecht with Lille and PSV Eindhoven also in the running for a move this month. Sadiki has been missing from the last two squads for the Belgian side, ramping up speculation that he could be on the move this month.

Het Nieuwsblad report the club could allow the prospect to leave this month, but are only willing to listen to loan offers as it stands. They note that no "concrete" approach has been made so far this month.

Morgan Whittaker

Swansea City winger Morgan Whittaker remains on Rangers' agenda as we edge closer to the end of the transfer window despite the hardline stance of the English Championship side. The 22-year-old is keen on a move to the Scottish Premiership but Russell Martin's side are standing firm on their valuation.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has declared Whittaker remains on the Ibrox agenda, telling BetVictor: "Rangers are expected to try again for Morgan Whittaker. Swansea turned down £1.5m proposal last week for the talented winger who wants Rangers move, it’s up to the clubs but after Cantwell deal, Rangers can try again for Whittaker who would be keen on the move.”

Asmir Begovic

The veteran shot-stopper has emerged as a potential option for Rangers in the summer, according to reports south of the border. However, they face losing out on the Everton goalkeeper amid interest from Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr.

The 35-year-old is out of contract in the summer and could agree a pre-contract move to Edmiston Drive. The Premier League side have knocked back Al-Nassr’s first offer for the Bosnian goalkeeper, but Sky Sports reports the club are preparing for a second bid to arrive.
