Rangers support face Glasgow Subway chaos amid ‘modernisation’ warning

Rangers supporters face contending with travel chaos before and after Sunday's Scottish Premiership match against St Johnstone.

Philippe Clement's side welcome the Perth club to Ibrox in an unusual 8pm kick-off time for a league contest.

And the journey to Ibrox for some supporters will be hugely altered due to 'modernisation works' on the Glasgow Subway.

A statement on the Glasgow Subway Travel social media accounts confirmed the Subway would still shut at the usual 6pm time on a Sunday despite the major fixture on October 6.

It means the many supporters who travel to Ibrox will have no route on the Subway pre or post match unless travelling to the ground before the 6pm shut-off.

It's stated the closure is to allow for modernisation of the transport system.

A Glasgow Subway travel update read: "Heading to @RangersFC v @StJohnstone match on Sunday 6th October?

"Please plan ahead as the Subway will close as normal at 6pm to allow for Subway modernisation works. Apologies for any inconvenience."

The last Glasgow Subway trains on Sunday will be the 5.50pm outer circle from Govan, the 6.03pm outer circle from St Enoch, the 5.50pm inner circle from Govan and the 6pm inner circle from St Enoch.

The next trains after those times will not be until the Subway reopens on Monday morning at around 6.30am.

The Subway closure will leave supporters with bus and train links as public travel options for the Sunday night fixture.
