Rangers have high expectations for Uddingston's Alex Lowry - and Scotland u21s boss Scot Gemmill can see why.
The midfielder has signed a new deal at Ibrox until 2025 after displaying his potential for success at the Premiership club.
He was involved in Wednesday's Europa League final squad against Eintracht Frankfurt but it ended in heartbreak courtesy of a penalty shootout loss.
Lowry has been handed senior chances in the Scottish Cup this season and Rangers have the chance to provide some silverware remedy for their European blues by facing Hearts in the final on Saturday.
Aged 18 and a graduate of Motherwell's Braidhurst high school, the midfielder has been called up to Scotland's u21s squad alongside teammate Leon King for a summer camp.
He's previously been capped at u19s level and the Scots youth coach reckons it'll be exciting to work with the Uddingston ace.
Gemmill said: “I haven't worked with Alex yet but I've really enjoyed watching him get his opportunity with his club.
"He did really well for the Scotland u19s and I'm really excited to give an exciting, highly-regarded young player an opportunity to play at this level.
“He's the same as all the players, he has to come and really maximise the opportunity and show he can play at this level.
“When you speak to the Rangers staff, like [academy chief ] Craig Mulholland, they really have high hopes for these players but recognise they still have further to go.
“Hopefully international experience can help them.”
