Dan Neil was the hero for Rangers as he scored two goals in the 3-0 Premier Sports Cup thumping of Celtic.
And his performance has earned him a comparison with club legend Barry Ferguson.
Peter Lovenkrands was impressed with the midfielder, wearing the captain's armband with Lawrence Shankland injured - and not just for his goals.
He felt the former Sunderland man controlled the midfield from the start of the game to the finish.
"Dan Neil ran the show from the start," Lovenkrands said on BBC Radio Scotland.
"On the ball he never lost a pass, simple things, he was doing everything right.
"I've not seen a performance like that since Barry Ferguson in the way he controlled the midfield.
"He popped up with goals, not just any goals, top-class finishes. It was an outstanding performance."

Meanwhile, Neil hailed manager Derek McInnes for his game plan and how he managed to fire the players up.
He said: “The gaffer made sure that we were ready to run through a brick wall.
“He is very good at team talks before the game and you’ve seen that in this game — everyone had each other’s backs from the first minute.
“Even at 3-0, we were still running around to see out the game.
“It was brilliant — a great team performance.
“The game plan that we worked on was carried out to an absolute tee.
“I thought we fully deserved the victory.
“We wanted to use that big crowd that we had behind us and really get after them.
“But we didn’t do it to the point where we left ourselves open.
“We switched from being on a block to being man for man. The lads executed it perfectly.
“We all believed in the plan going into the game.”
