Rangers star 'banned' from Livingston as David Martindale makes honest red card admission

David Martindale accepts that his Livingston team were lucky to end their match with Rangers on Saturday with 11 men - as he rued the impact of Scott Arfield.

The experienced midfielder has now scored five goals against Livingston and won 12 of his 14 battles with them. Another was notched on Saturday as he rose from the bench to score alongside James Tavernier in their 2-1 win at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

Joel Nouble had put Livi in front before Phillip Cancar lunged into two similar tackles on Rangers' Scott Wright. Only one resulted in a caution as his boss admitted Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men should have been facing 11 men.

He told Sky Sports: "I think we got lucky there. I am not going to sit here and tell lies. Phil says he slid going into the challenge but for me I think we get a wee bit lucky. We're lucky it's not a double yellow.

"They make the sub with wee Arfield - he's banned from Livingston that boy! I'll need to try and get him signed, just to put him the bench or the stand so he's not playing against us!

"Wee Arfield goes on and does what wee Scotty does. I think it's probably the first time Ryan Kent puts a ball in with his right foot.

"Majority of the time we blocked him off, put him onto his left foot and Shamal George and the two centre halves deal with it comfortably."
