JAMES TAVERNIER admits that Angelino’s late strike for RB Leipzig was a painful moment for him and his team-mates but the Rangers skipper is adamant that his side can turn things around in the second leg at Ibrox next week.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men defended bravely in Germany before shipping a spectacular late goal with five minutes to play.
The two sides meet for the second leg in Govan next week and Tavernier believes he saw enough from his team’s performance to give him hope of reaching May’s Europa League final in Seville.
“I thought we were solid throughout the game,” he told BT Sport. “We limited their chances but we conceded off a set-piece where our organisation wasn’t good.
“It cost us. It is obviously one great strike but we could have prevented it.
“We’re disappointed in that but we know that at 1-0 and going to Ibrox [for the second leg] we are still well in the game.
“We know what we can produce at home with our fans’ backing behind us.
“Away from home we wanted to take a good result back to Ibrox and it is only 1-0, so we know we are more than capable of turning this in our favour.
“We know we can be better going forward. We still created a couple of chances and we limited them but back at home we can put in a really good performance.
“That’s another thing – next week we will have players coming back from injuries so we will be fitter and stronger. We are looking forward to it.
“I expect [it will be a different game]. They have a 1-0 lead so they might be a little more defensive but we are going to be fully at it from the first whistle.
“We are going to try and score as many goals as possible and try and keep the ball out the back of our net.
“We defended well today and it was just a set-piece that let us down so we know we are capable of doing what we need to do.”
