Rangers' recruitment drive goes international with trip on the horizon

The next step for Rangers' recruitment drive will take them to Mexico, it is reported.

The Daily Record claims Rangers transfer chiefs will head to Cancun for a summit in June.

The Ibrox club attended last year's TransferRoom meeting in Lisbon.

It's believed this directly led to the loan signing of Oscar Cortes from Lens in France.

The convention will take place in the popular Mexican tourist spot on Monday, June 3 and Tuesday, June 4 next week.

It's said that over 100 other clubs and football agencies will attend the event, including the likes of Manchester City, Bayer Leverkusen and Inter Miami.

The format of the event sees numerous rounds of 15-minute one-to-one meetings between club representatives and agents to speak directly about transfer dealings.

Founder and CEO of TransferRoom Jonas Ankersen said: "With Copa América on the horizon in the US and the World Cup set to kick off in Mexico, North America is truly taking centre stage in the world of football.

"And with the TransferRoom Summit, Cancún becomes the launchpad for the Summer Transfer Window.”

Jefte is one South American who has already been drafted in this summer by Philippe Clement. The Brazilian left-back was officially announced by Rangers last Friday. He will Borna Barisic, who will leave for Trabzonspor at the end of his contract.

Chilean defender Thomas Galdames seems to be the latest from that continent who has interested Rangers, with a deal for Jose Cordoba now off.

Galdames is set to play his last game for Godoy Cruz in Argentina this week.

It's claimed clubs in Belgian's top flight, the Jupiler Pro League, also have an active interest in Galdames.

Galdames is contracted with Godoy Cruz until December this year but it is expected he will depart the club for a fee before then.
