Rangers pub The Bristol Bar threatened with liquidation as 'wind up' notice issued to court

The future is looking uncertain for a popular Rangers pub after a notice was issued asking for it to be wound up.

The Bristol Bar in Dennistoun closed its doors last month to undergo 'important refurbishment works' and was set to reopen on June 12.

However, the owners have now been issued with a notice asking for it to be wound up by the Court with a liquidator to be appointed if no action is taken.

Following the notice being given, The Bristol Bar or any other interested party has eight days to respond before a liquidator is appointed by the court to take control of the company's assets.

The last post by the Duke Street bar on social media explained: "We are going to close for a short period of time to carry out some important refurbishment works.

"These works will involve removal of large sections of the ceiling to install an air conditioning system and the overdue repairs to the floor tiles.

"We expect to be closed for 12 days and already are working hard on securing some amazing entertainment for you guys when we return.

"We are so sorry about the short notice but with the season coming to a close we feel now is the best time to get this work out of the way.

"Works will commence on Tuesday, May 30 and last orders will be Monday May 29 at 10pm.

"We will be back soon and thanks for your support, we can't thank you all enough."

One commenter has suggested that it would be remaining shut for a 'few days' longer than planned.

According to Companies House, the company which owns the bar has been issued with a compulsory strike-off notice five times since 2010 that have later been discontinued. The first Gazette notices are issued when a company fails to submit its accounts on time, pay tax, or doesn't inform Companies House of a new corporate address.

They then have two months to show evidence to the contrary before being struck off.

An advertisement of the petition appeared in the Metro newspaper, from Frances Ennis, Petitioner's Agent for Bellwether Green Solicitors, and stated: "Notice is hereby given that on 12th June 2023 a Petition was presented to the Sheriff at Glasgow by Bristol Bar (Glasgow) Ltd having their registered office at 600 Duke Street, Glasgow, G31 1JX ('the Company') craving the Court inter alia that the Company be wound up by the Court and that an interim liquidator be appointed in which Petition the Sheriff at Glasgow by interlocutor dated 12th June 2023 appointed all persons having an interest to lodge. Answers in the hands of the Sheriff Clerk at Glasgow within eight days after intimation, service or advertisement."

The Bristol Bar and Bellwether Green have been asked for comment.
