Rangers player ratings v Celtic as Fashion Sakala the magic man but old Alfredo Morelos worries arise

It was a derby day that promised much and delivered plenty as Celtic drew 2-2 with Rangers at Ibrox.

Things started in storming fashion for the Hoops as Alfredo Morelos played a stray pass straight into the path of Daizen Maeda, who finished with aplomb to hand Ange Postecoglou's champions an early lead. Michael Beale rallied his home troops at the break and were level within minutes through a pinpoint Ryan Kent strike.

Then Carl Starfelt crashed into a tackle on Fashion Sakala and handed James Tavernier the chance to score from the spot. The captain put Rangers ahead and it looked like it was going to be a huge three points that cut Celtic's lead at the top of the league to six points. But Kyogo Furuhashi struck late to restore parity and make it a point each. although one that may suit the leaders who remain nine points clear. Here's how we rated the Rangers players.

Rangers manager Michael Beale (L) speaks to Fashion Sakala (SNS Group)

Allan McGregor - 6

Left completely exposed at the opening goal but still got a hand to it. Didn’t have too much to do otherwise but a commanding presence whenever danger came his way. 6

James Tavernier - 6

Showed guts to turn around a horror start when he had a hand in Celtic’s opener. Should have put his foot through the Morelos hospital pass the way he did with his spot kick.

Connor Goldson - 7

Would have been gutted to concede the late leveller as he’d been a rock for much of the second half having completely snuffed out Kyogo until that point. Survived a couple of VAR scares.

Ben Davies - 6

An important figure at the back as he restricted Celts for long periods and used the ball well building from the back, especially in the second period.

Borna Barisic - 6

Heavily involved down the left flank but seemed to struggle with the weight of his crosses at first. Deliveries improved as the match wore on and did well to snuff out trouble.

John Lundstram - 6

Also culpable in the Maeda opener as he lost out in his midfield battle in the build up but gradually became a more influential figure as Gers seized control before being forced off injured.

Glen Kamara - 6

Another one who was improved after the interval having chased shadows at first. Much more composed as Gers dictated and helped feed attackers but never really imposed himself.

Malik Tillman - 7

A disciplined display from the attacker. Took a while to warm up but eventually got a foot on the ball after the break and helped press high and put pressure on Hoops defence.

Ryan Kent - 8

In a more central role and always looked to create. Gers couldn’t get the ball to him often enough in first half but produced a moment of magic when he finally found space after the restart.

Fashion Sakala - 9

Main man for Gers and turned the game on its head. Didn’t get much joy in the first half but was absolutely electric in the second as his pace caused Celtic tons of problems and won the penalty for the second goal. 9

Alfredo Morelos - 6

Frustrating day and still doesn’t look fit. Gifted Celtic an opener and missed a couple of big chances before the break. Improved as game wore on but still not 100 percent.

Ryan Jack - 5

Brought on to bolster midfield and produced a couple of quality passes as Gers searched for a clincher.

Scott Wright - 3

Lively on the counter as the game swung end to end in final stages.

James Sands - 3

Chucked on late on for Malik Tillman in a bid to see out the match but didn’t get a foothold.
