Rangers player ratings as Malik Tillman and John Lundstram boys against men in chastening Champions League night

So much for Liverpool being fragile. It was men against boys for Rangers at Anfield and the only consolation for Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his men is that the damage wasn't worse.

They had Allan McGregor to thank for keeping the scoreline down as he found himself in a personal duel with Darwin Nunez at one stage but was left with no chance at Trent Alexander-Arnold's brilliant free kick and a Mo Salah penalty.

The defeat on Merseyside means Rangers are still without a point in Europe's premier competition at the halfway stage in Group A. They will have their chance for revenge when the Premier League giants head to Ibrox for the return but they will have to seriously improve their performance. Record Sport rated the players on a chastening night.

Allan McGregor Left with no chance at Trent Alexander-Arnold’s free kick or the penalty but denied Darwin Nunez FOUR times, tipped away a Mo Salah effort and a sensational stop from Diogo Jota. 8

James Tavernier At his peak for Rangers the Ibrox skipper was touted for a Premier League move and even an England call up but found wanting here. 5

Connor Goldson Well timed challenge to halt Luis Diaz who broke at pace on the counter after Rangers gave up possession. Best outfield performer. 7

Ben Davies Back at his former club and only his third start for the Light Blues and was fairly steady given his lack of action this season. Subbed late on. 6

Leon King Huge night for the teenager to be thrown into a game like this and that inexperience showed with his challenge on Luis Diaz which handed Liverpool their second goal from the spot. Had been doing well up until then. 5

Borna Barisic It’s a daunting task coming up against Mo Salah but the Croatian made life far too easy for Liverpool’s Egyptian King. 5

John Lundstram Up against his boyhood heroes but the visitors were overrun in midfield and picked up the first booking for a naughty challenge down the back of Diogo Jota’s ankle to compound an off night. 4

Steven Davis

Easy to see why you would look to his experience on a night like this but made little impact, albeit it was a bit of a thankless task in that Light Blues engine room. Subbed. 4

Ryan Kent Would have been desperate to impress on his old stomping ground and a lovely bit of skill to win a free kick in first half and fired over from rebound of resulting set piece. Subbed late on. 5

Malik Tillman Offered next to nothing, probably not helped by the fact he was out on the right with the USA international more effective in a central role. Game passed him by. Subbed. 3

Alfredo Morelos Big call to play the Colombian ahead of Antonio Colak but he didn't hold the ball up in the way he he has done so well in Europe previously and little service. Subbed. 5
