Rangers mischief makers bow to Ange in bonkers Hotline as they toast his troll job on Celtic happy clappers

Former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou finally admitted he was never in it for the long haul in Glasgow but some Hotline callers are feeling like they’ve been taken for a ride by the former Parkhead boss.

The Aussie was unveiled as Spurs gaffer this week and admitted it was always his intention to move on from Glasgow when things were motoring along nicely in top gear. But the Hoops faithful calling in reckon they’ve been left suffering whiplash from that sudden admission.

Paddy Gowans was first on to say: “Big Ange is just a gold digger. He admitted he was never in it for the long haul at Celtic, he just used the club as a stepping stone for more money and to boost his big ego.” Nick Campbell, Edinburgh, added: “Like any manager Ange knows you can’t succeed in Glasgow without the backing of the fans, so I can understand why his private ambition was different from his public statements about being at the club longer than anyone might think.

“Good luck to him, the lesson here is for Celtic fans to have a healthy scepticism of badge-kissers.” Jeddah-bound Jota also got it in the neck after his big-money move to Al-Ittihad, with Drew Ferguson, Oban, emailing in: “Jota is indeed the comedian as he tells us he loves the Bhoys more than his girlfriends - but the Bhoys now know he loves the money even more. Oh how love is blind, eh!”

At least the Parkhead faithful can still depend on Callum McGregor after the skipper penned his new five-year deal. Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: “Callum McGregor shows devotion and loyalty by signing on for another five years and by ending his playing career with his boyhood heroes.

“Just like Paul McStay, he’s proving it's not all about money like Jota. If you are happy and contented then that should be your main priority.” But Rangers fan Joe Sneddon said: “The best news I’ve heard all summer is that Celtic have given McGregor a five-year deal. It's a game changer in the mould of Shane Duffy! Desperate stuff!”

Neil Renton, Leith, called to say: “If Antonio Colak leaves Rangers for the MLS that will be a massive kick in the teeth for the Ibrox club. It’s a league for those that couldn’t make it elsewhere or like Leo Messi, want a wee cushty retirement gig.”

And finally, Henry Moffat, Stirling, said: “With Scotland's five biggest clubs all in Europe this year, it is a chance to recover some pride from last season. English fans have been ridiculing our game after the shame of the seven-goal ‘battle of Britain’ turkey shoot at Ibrox and the worst-team-ever tag. Let’s have a great season and shut the English up.”
