Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield drops World Cup hint as star teases dramatic Canada U-turn

Scott Arfield has not ruled out a stunning U-Turn on his Canada decision as the Rangers midfielder's chances of playing at the World Cup are given hope.

The 33-year-old had earned his 19th cap against the USA in November 2019 and then fell out of the international picture. He confirmed in January he had opted to focus on his club career, a decision he felt vindicated by Rangers winning the Premiership in 2021, since also scooping the Scottish Cup and a Europa League final slot.

His country have qualified for the major tournament without him and while not regretting his international call, Arfield says there's still time for him to reverse it ahead of World Cup 2022. He told OneSoccer: "Around my career at the time, two years ago when I took the decision - things happen in life which you keep in house but it was an incredibly hard decision.

"In terms of retirement I am very content with what I did. I can give full focus to my club which I wanted to do - to come here and be as successful as I can.

"Over the last four years I think we have done that - obviously winning the league title, Scottish Cup, the Europa League last year and Champions League this year, so we've done that.

"But you never say never in football and what it throws at you and you're always open to these things."
