Rangers midfielder Alex Lowry set to clinch Premiership loan switch

Rangers midfielder Alex Lowry is poised to join Hearts on a loan deal.

The Auchenhowie graduate made just seven appearances for the Light Blues last term as he struggled to make an impact at Ibrox.

Now he is set to get the chance to prove his worth in the Premiership by making the move along the M8 to join the Jambos.

It is understood that Rangers will have a recall option on the 20-year-old as he prepares to head out on loan for the first time.

Boss Michael Beale has significantly strengthened his forward line in recent weeks as the likes of Sam Lammers, Cyriel Dessers, Abdallah Sima and Danilo have put pen-to-paper.

Those additions will limit the opportunities that Lowry will get to impress in the coming months and a temporary exit has now been agreed as he prepares to join up with the Tynecastle squad ahead of the big kick-off this weekend.

Rangers will look to trim further excess from the squad in the coming weeks as Glen Kamara and Fashion Sakala get set to head for the exit door sooner rather than later.

And Beale is pleased with how his group is shaping up as he focuses his attentions on the opening Premiership fixture away to Kilmarnock on Saturday evening.

Beale said: “With the squad, for every player that has gone out we’ve brought a player in.

“We lost Tillman, Kent, Morelos and Colak. There’s a lot of speculation around Fashion Sakala as well.

“That’s why we brought in Sima, Lammers, Dessers and Danilo. So actually that’s one less, our numbers are no bigger.

“I think we can tighten the squad even more and if we were to lose a player that we weren’t planning to then we can certainly go into the market and replace.

“The big thing now is some consistency over the next couple of windows. We’ve lowered the average age of the squad and we’ve brought players in I think have good value and good pedigree.

“It’s important now we let this team bed in and show their ambition on the pitch in terms of performances.

“Certainly the motivation around the building seems to have gone up a few notches but that’s just words, let’s show it on the pitch now.”
